While he was tipped to extend his contract with Chelsea last week, Willian ultimately rejected the Blues’ latest offer and could slip away to Arsenal, where his agent has his entries.
Under contract with Chelsea until the end of the Champions League, Willian looked set to extend his contract with the Blues. This is in any case what Sky Sports assured last Monday, speaking of a possible formalization at the end of the week. This formalization did not finally take place and according to The Guardian, Willian refused Chelsea’s latest proposal, which was for a two-year contract.
Willian’s agent firmly established at Arsenal
The 31-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder is claiming an additional year and Arsenal are said to be ready to offer him this three-year contract. Arsenal are even reportedly already in talks with the player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, who is very close to the Gunners. He is notably the agent of the Brazilian technical director of the club, Edu, and succeeded in extending David Luiz for a year after having also placed Cédric Soares with the Gunners last winter.
“He has two concrete offers in the Premier League, he has a big offer from MLS and two other offers in Europe,” Willian’s agent told TalkSport last week. “So Willian is in a very good position and he will take his decision after the last game of the season”. It could be as early as this weekend if Chelsea (beaten 3-0 at home in the first leg) are knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Saturday night.
