Top officials are again grumbling about the competence of Gernot Rohr, but his employers do not have the cash or the will power to do away with the Super Eagles coach before the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September.
A top official told Newsmen: “This man just doesn’t know anything.
“He’s just sitting down and collecting big money.”
The Super Eagles performance in two friendlies against Cameroon was disappointing as they lost one and drew the other.
On Tuesday, the team improved on their performance against the Indomitable Lions but they still could not reverse a 1-0 loss they suffered in the first game.
Rohr, who is on a monthly salary of $45,000, blamed the team’s below par showing in Austria to the absence of over a dozen top stars.
His assistant and former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, was conspicuously missing in Austria with officials insisting they are yet to receive any explanation for his absence.
The relationship between Rohr and his young assistant is reported not to be great with some also suggesting the Franco-German desperately needs an experienced coach by his side.
Salisu Yusuf and Imama Amapakabo provided such experience and then the Eagles played better.
Speculations over Rohr’s future have been frequent, but the same officials who wish to see his back will also be the same ones who will warn Rohr has a huge severance payoff of about a Million Dollars should his contract be terminated before it has ran out.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) do not have the cash to spare as they are barely able to fund their other programmes.
Experts also posited that despite their endless grumblings, Rohr’s bosses stand to lose more than they will gain should be booted out.
