St-Etienne must “count his money” to avoid the worst

Sportingly hard in Ligue 1, AS Saint-Etienne must obviously tighten their belts hard in this period of crisis for football. And the leaders do not hide it.

Ranked 17th in Ligue 1 with only three points ahead of Nîmes, barragiste, ASSE is in total uncertainty while the season is completely stopped. Pending a possible return of the Championship, but also the programming of the final of the Coupe de France to play against PSG, the Greens must in addition deal with receipts which are zero, just like the other formations of L1.

Concern is therefore great on the Etrat side, and not only because of the classification of AS Saint-Etienne. Even if there is no danger in the home, Xavier Thuilot must admit that a sacred turn of the screw is to be expected.

The general manager of ASSE does not hide the fact that the coming weeks will be complicated. “How to deal with expenses when there are no more entries. It is no longer an accounting problem, but a cash flow problem. We are fortunate to have made the sales of Saliba and Rémy Cabella in July, i.e. at the start of the 2019-2020 accounting year. We will therefore not be forced to carry them out at the end. Like everyone else, we’ll count our pennies, and whether to hold until the end of June, the situation is tense,” warns in The Team, Xavier Thuilot.

And it will not be easier next season, as AS Saint-Etienne had budgeted for an 8th place in the Ligue 1 ranking this year. And unless there is a miracle, we will be far from it on the evening of day 38, if there are 38 days this season.
