Nigerian comedian, skit maker, and content creator Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, otherwise recognized as Oga Sabinus, threatened to sue popular brand, peak milk, over the alleged use of his trademarked term, “Something hooge”.
According to a pre-suit notice signed by his lead counsel, Mr Stanley Alieke, the comedian is seeking N500 million for the alleged unauthorized use of his intellectual property and another N500m for damages for the “emotional, physical, psychological and mental trauma our client has suffered for the trademark theft and the infringement of his intellectual rights property”.
Sabinus explained how Friesland Food Wamco Nigerian PLC, a Peak Milk subsidiary, exploited his trademarked tagline “Something Hooge” to advertise and promote their product, Peak Milk.
On the 24th of May 2022, he disclosed, the advertisement was posted on Peak Milk Nigeria’s verified Instagram profile (peak milk). The comedian claimed that the term was trademarked with the FILE NUMBER: NG/TM/O/2021/48316 on November 26, 2021.
