Eager to strengthen its attacking sector at a lower cost, OM are thinking of Islam Slimani, loaned this season by Leicester to AS Monaco.
Author of an exceptional first part of the season in the Principality, the Algerian international does not really fit into the plans of the new coach, Robert Moreno.
Unless the situation turns around, the 31-year-old striker will therefore return to Leicester this summer… on a very temporary basis. Because the Premier League club definitely wants to sell Islam Slimani, and has already set its price at 10 Million Euro.
But beyond the transfer fee, it is the player’s salary, over 300,000 euros monthly that could be a real concern for Olympique de Marseille.
For Bertrand Latour, Andoni Zubizarreta and Jacques-Henri Eyraud would do better to drop this dossier, which is far too delicate financially, right now.
“Slimani, the ideal rookie for OM? I will answer no for two reasons. The first is that I am not sure that Marseille has 10 million euros to put on a player. So 10 million, or another sum of money if they can afford it, it should rather be put on a young player that they can then resell. I’m not a fan of trading, but Marseille is looking for income. So it is not by putting money on a player who is approaching the end of his career … It is not what to do ” warned the journalist of La Chaîne L’Equipe, which encourages Jacques-Henri Eyraud, Andoni Zubizarreta and André Villas-Boas to target younger players during the next transfer window.
The fact remains that the Marseille club, in the grip of significant financial difficulties, will find it very difficult to drop large checks for young people who have not yet proven anything during their career.
The equation for the next transfer window will therefore be very difficult for the Olympian leaders to solve…
