The Nigerian professional footballer, Elizabeth Johnson has been reportedly dead.
Johnson, who played for Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) side, Sunshine Queens, passed away following a brief illness.
Femi Atolagbe, the club’s media officer, says Elizabeth died before arriving at the hospital after feeling severe dizziness and fever on Saturday.
Naija News 247 gathered the team’s goalkeeper, who was “hale and hearty,” trained with the team on Friday.
“Very heartbreaking, Sunshine Queens lost one of its Goalkeepers, Elizabeth Johnson (Janded) to the cold hands of death moments ago.
“Johnson who was hale and heathy trained with the team yesterday at the Ondo State Sports complex, Akure.
“She earlier in the day complained of feeling feverish and dizzy. She was being taken to the hospital when she gave up the ghost on the way.
“Players, officials, and management are still in shock,” Sunshine Queens’ statement reads.
Late Johnson played for both the Super Falcons and Bayelsa Queens.
