Manchester City only started their season on Monday, but Pep Guardiola is already having to deal with many absences. The Catalan coach claimed to have only 13 able-bodied players, in anticipation of Leicester’s visit (Sunday, 4.30 p.m.), in the Premier League.
The 2020-2021 season is already very complicated for Manchester City. Not in terms of results, since the citizens won their two matches of the week, against Wolverhampton (1-3), this Monday in the Premier League, then against Bournemouth (2-1), this Thursday in the Carabao Cup, but rather in terms of available players.
Indeed, Pep Guardiola confided to have only 13 players available, not counting the young players from the Academy, while the third day of the English Championship is already looming, with a shock and the visit of Leicester.
Guardiola should still turn to young players
A long list of absentees that the Catalan coach must already manage. This Thursday, the former FC Barcelona coach had also trusted young players, which he should therefore continue to do against the Foxes, with in particular the striker Liam Delap (17), the son of the former Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap, who opened the scoring against the Cherries.
The young player could even settle down in the City squad, pending the return of Sergio Aguero, who will certainly have to wait another two months to fully recover from his knee surgery.
This is in any case what Pep Guardiola confirmed at a press conference: “With the problems we have before, of course Liam will stay with us. We will see if we need him or if we can use him…”
Behind, the former technician of Bayern Munich must in particular do without Nicolas Otamendi, on the start, or even Aymeric Laporte, short of form after being affected by the coronavirus.
