A fracas involving members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Tricycle Operators, and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, erupted in Ilorin on Thursday, resulting in the arrest of an unspecified number of offenders.

Connectley Naija News learned that following a minor mishap, a free-for-all among the three transport unions erupted in the Okolowo district of Ilorin.
At around 1000 hours, the State Police Command received word of the brawl.
According to the Command’s spokesman, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, the altercation started over a small accident involving a tricycle rider and a Mitsubishi Canter driver, which escalated into fighting between the two parties.
In his word;
“The crisis later extended to the Oloje, Alore, and Omoda areas of the Ilorin metropolis, with windshields and rear lights of some vehicles damaged,”
According to the police spokesman, Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, swift dispatch of the Command’s Tactical Units and other conventional policemen, together with the professional manner in which the issue was handled, ultimately restored calm in the affected districts.
The Commissioner of Police, who expressed his concern with the rate at which some transport operators in the State were prone to lawlessness, asked the leaders of all transport unions in the State to call their members to order.
He swore to never allow any individual or group of individuals to undermine the existing state of peace in Kwara State.
Despite the fact that no one was hurt in the altercation, the police commissioner stated that the individuals arrested will be charged in court once the investigation was completed.
Meanwhile, the CP has stationed teams of officers in the area to monitor and apprehend anyone seen promoting any act of disorder, while residents are encouraged to go about their normal business without fear of harassment or intimidation.
